All - I did not see anything around this posted, so I thought I'd raise this point to tap into the experience and knowledge of members of this community.

How does your organization/firm procure Apps/Extensions/Add-ons through platform marketplaces? With many of the technology platforms adopting the App Store model, similar to what Apple did with iPhone OS App Store (B2C), how do you manage the contractual risks associated with procuring through these marketplaces which is largely built for B2B? Marketplaces are inherently built for agility/speed and for developers to be able to utilize the broad offering from various software development/ISVs, so enablement is easy, but that also means that the company is bound by marketplace and developer's standard terms and conditions.

How do you govern this? What has worked/not worked? Anything you can share is appreciated.

To answer your question about contractual risks, in our experience the marketplace or third-party reseller will furnish terms and conditions solely pertaining to the sale of the software/service, rather than those of the developers themselves. It is advisable to obtain and scrutinize the actual terms and conditions directly from the software or service provider, aligning them with your institution's specific requirements. Typically, these terms are found to be largely non-negotiable. Would love to hear other members' thoughts on this.
